Mayyanad is a beautiful village situated in Kollam district of Kerala State, India. It belongs to South Kerala Division. It is located about 10 kilometers south of Kollam city and 60 KM from State capital Thiruvananthapuram. Mayyanad can be reached by frequent buses from Kollam city, Kottiyam and Paravur town and by local train from Kollam and Trivandrum. The bridge (Thanni bridge) connecting Mayyand and Paravur was completed in 2012, making travel to Paravur and Kollam city easier.
This village is the birth place of well-known personalities like C Kesavan (Chief Minister: 1950-1952) and C V Kunjuraman (Social reformer, founder of Kerala Kaumudi, journalist and leader). Mayyanad coastal line (Thanni/Mukkam) along the Arabian Sea is famous for fishing. Mukkam/ Thanni Beach is perfect place for people of all age to make their mind to regain their freshness and peace.
A hub of many popular shrines for Hindus, Christians and Muslims. The major attraction of this place being Lord Subramaniam Temple at Umayanalloor. The shrine is said to have been consecrated by Shri. Sankaracharya of Kaladi.
